Dairy In the Classroom

Purpose:  To support the efforts of classroom teachers focusing on lessons about the selection of and cooking with dairy products.  St. Louis District Dairy Council will reimburse teachers for the costs of dairy products used in dairy-focused lessons, up to $1 per student (with a minimum of $50 and a maximum of $100) reimbursed per teacher, per semester.  This program is made possible by local dairy farmers.

Guidelines:

  • “Dollars for Dairy in the Classroom” funds are available to junior and senior high schools located within the service territory of St. Louis District Dairy Council.
  • Each school will be eligible to receive one reimbursement per teacher, per semester to cover the costs of purchasing dairy products for dairy lessons in the classroom.  All teachers are eligible to receive up to $50.00 for reimbursement, regardless of class size.  Teachers with over 50 students in their classroom are eligible to receive $1 per student, up to $100.00.
  • Dairy foods must be domestic and from a dairy cow.  Please note that while eggs and margarine are often located in the dairy case, they are not dairy products and therefore will not be reimbursed.  In addition, organic milk is not eligible for reimbursement as those farmers do not contribute to the check-off program in which we are funded.

Procedure:

  • Purchase dairy products for classroom use during the current semester and save your cash register receipts.  You will be reimbursed for the amount the dairy items total, up to $50 for smaller classrooms OR $1 per student (up to $100) as described in the guidelines above.
  • We ask that you clearly identify dairy items on your receipts by either highlighting, circling, underling, or noting with an asterisk.  If faxing in your request, please choose a method other than highlighting to note dairy products on receipts.
  • Complete the “Dollars for Dairy in the Classroom” Reimbursement Request Form.  Each teacher must submit their own reimbursement request form.
  • Submit the reimbursement form and all receipts by May 1, 2026.  Schools are encouraged to submit all forms and receipts at the same time.  Receipts must have dates within the current semester.
  • Submit your request as soon as possible.  This program is offered on a first come-first served basis as funds are limited.
