St. Louis District Dairy Council has partnered with dairy farmers in Illinois and Missouri to bring our Adopt-A-Cow program to classrooms. The program, designed for grades kindergarten through second, allows classes to “adopt” a calf from one of our partner farmers, name it, and receive monthly pictures and updates.

Upon signing up for the program and adopting a calf, the classroom will receive a printable birth certificate, which they can use to name the calf, and a poster to track the calf’s growth through the monthly photos that the teacher will receive via email.

In addition to the updates on the growth and development of the calf, monthly emails and occasional print packets* will contain digital and printable educational materials, such as:

  • Educational activity sheets on dairy farming, dairy’s role in a nutritious diet, bone health, and dental health
  • Games
  • SMART Board lessons
  • Dairy farm videos
  • Coloring books
  • Hands-on activities

The adoption barn is closed for the 2018-2019 school year. Please fill out the form below if you are interested in signing up next year.

*For participants outside of the St. Louis District Dairy Council service area, printed program materials will not be mailed. However, we welcome you to participate in the Adopt-A-Cow program, and have made all materials available to download and print from the monthly emails that will be delivered to all participants.
